COVID-19: Standard general policy in Spain still requires the use of a face mask when inside and when it is not possible to maintain 1.5m separation with others while outside. It is our understanding that face masks will be remain mandatory when in lift queues and on the lift themselves. Hygiene protocols such as hand sanitiser are also standard policy in all establishments.
Après & Nightlife: The majority of après is situated around the main square. A good place to meet is the new Tap Station at Restaurant La Bodega, which is near the bottom of the gondola station. For those feeling active you can take part in the winter activities at Mirlo Blanco – snow bike slalom and sledging, or if you want to relax then enjoy the Spa in your hotel as it is the best in the area.
Don’t forget in Spain the party starts late. There are a good mix of bars. Some popular ones are Nevada 53, La Chimnea and Mango club. It will be a case of trial and error as many of the bars depend on who is in resort and what DJs they have on that weekend. The weekends can get pretty busy and lively!
Snow Reports: You can sign up for free weekly snow reports and powder alerts by clicking on the below link:
There is also a useful Sierra Nevada app you can download for free.
Winter Travel Insurance
It is vital to think about having a thorough winter sports insurance policy which will not only cover you in the event of an accident or injury, but will also cover your ski or snowboarding equipment if it gets lost or stolen. We know this is the last thing you want to think about when you’re looking forward to a ski trip, but please do check you are covered. Many banks and mobile phone contracts offer Annual Travel Insurance but please do check it covers winter sports. Battleface have a good reputation for COVID-19 cover and winter sports.
Winter sports safety tips
Don’t let an accident on the first day ruin your weekend, remember a few simple tips and ensure a great time in the snow.
1. Wear a helmet – some policies request that you do. I know this seems like a really boring suggestion, but safety first!
2. Wear suntan lotion – Any seasoned pro knows that suntan lotion to the face is a must.
3. Dress smart! First timers always seem to make the same mistake – you don’t need to dress for the Arctic! If you’re skiing or snowboarding all day, you’ll generally be keeping your body temperature quite high. Invest in a good coat and ski trousers. One will keep you warm, the other will keep your butt dry after you’ve landed on it for the hundredth time.
4. Know your limits. Winter sports – the clue is in the name. Most activities will use muscle groups that you probably haven’t used in a while – or at all! Cramp is a common occurrence and when you’re halfway down a vertical slope, it can be pretty inconvenient! Ease yourself in – hard I know when you only have a few days.
5. Don’t go into the roped off areas. Again, this may seem an obvious one – but that fresh powder can look oh so appealing. Seriously though, they are roped off for a reason.
6. Stay hydrated – and we don’t mean Aperol Spritz
